Middlesex Magic

Congratulations to the Middlesex Magic on capturing the 2011 11th Grade Super Regional Championship on April 10th in Foxboro. MA. The Middlesex Magic uniforms have the initials "MC" on every jersey which honors the founder of the program, NE AAU Hall of Famer and legendary coach, Mike Crotty Sr.  This is the second time they have competed in the NE Super Regional tournament since Mike Sr. passed away and they are 10-0 with two consecutive championships!

This may be the deepest team in Middlesex Magic history with what Coach Crotty Jr. thinks has over 10 college players. The staple for this team, as it was a year ago, is amazingly strong team defense and great chemistry.  No team scored more than 55 points on the Middlesex Magic throughout the entire tournament, and the team's chemistry is apparent as you can hear the bench supporting the team and making noise from outside the gym.  The Middlesex Magic 11th grade team is 13-0 on the season.

Joey Glynn, Aaron Davis, and Anthony Barry led the way for the Magic from an offensive standpoint.  Glynn scored at the rim and from the mid range while Barry showcased his amazing ability to get to the rim and score in the open court.  Floor general and leader Aaron Davis was a maestro on the court all weekend pushing the tempo and finding the appropriate teammate.  Coach Crotty credits the teams offensive flow to the superior playmaking ability of Davis.  6'9 Center Peter Miller was a force all weekend long, as he and Glynn dominated the boards for the Magic.  Miller also showed his ability to get to the basket and an array of post moves that make him a difficult player to stop.  These four also anchor the team defense, as Davis can pressure the ball 94 feet, and Anthony Barry's length, strength, and quickness make him the complete defensive package.  Joey Glynn is right there with Barry, as the forward can guard positions 1-5 for Coach Crotty and he and Barry tackle the opposition's best scorers.  Miller anchors the defense turning away many shots and altering even more.

Guards Cooper Ainge, Michael Thorpe, and Michael Corcoran all bring extremely well rounded games to the floor for the Magic, as well as even more speed.  All shoot the ball extremely well, make plays for others, and defend.

Connor Mahoney, Kyle Reardon, and John Mullane played the majority of the 2nd half of the championship game as the Magic needed shooting and smart play on offense, and length and toughness on defense.  This trio of 6'5 juniors bring tremendous shooting, extremely high basketball IQ, as well as toughness on defense and on the glass.

Chirs O'Keefe, John Parsons, and Chris Lee are likely the toughest players on the Magic team.  O'Keefe and Parsons played big minutes throughout the weekend and are labeled as defensive stoppers for Coach Crotty.  In addition to making the team defense that much better, both have an amazing knack for the ball and ability to score.  Lee was injured this weekend and did not play, but the 6'6 F/C is as physical a player as there is in New England.

Good luck to the Magic for the rest of 2011.
