MIDDLESEX
MAGIC'S MIKE CROTTY PASSES
by Boston
Herald | February 3, 2010
Clad in a matching warm-up suit
and with his close-cropped
haircut, Mike Crotty was no
stranger to high school
gymnasiums throughout the state.
Crotty died suddenly yesterday
at the age of 57, the cause of
death not immediately known. He
is survived by his wife,
Theresa, daughter Tasha and son
Michael Jr.
"I
spoke to him Monday and he said
he wasn’t feeling good,” close
friend Mike Daley said. “I know
he went to the hospital that
night, then the next thing I
know, I received a call early in
the morning from Michael Jr.
saying that his father had
passed away.”
Crotty’s passion was basketball,
something that led him to create
the Middlesex Magic AAU program
17 years ago. While Crotty never
made any bones that he wanted to
win every game he coached, he
took even more pride when one of
his players was able to use
basketball to get a better
education. (full
