11U WAYLAND BLAZERS SHINE at
NATIONALS
July
12, 2010 | 2:08pm
Kissimmee,
FL… The 11U Wayland Blazers proved to
the nation that they belonged competing for
a National Championship. During
the first set of pool play games, the
Blazers swung their way right into the
Diamond bracket to be amongst the top 16
teams in the country.
The Blazers had their talents pushed to the
test with a week of tough games scheduled.
However, the Blazers showed that their
talents exceeded most of the competition by
defeating respectable southern teams from
Jacksonville, Tampa Bay (twice), Port St.
Lucie, and an international team from
Columbia. The Blazers showed off their
advanced skills through fantastic pitching,
timely hitting, solid defense, multiple
pick-offs, drag bunts, and sophisticated
coaching to earn the #8 seed entering the
single elimination round.
Stellar pitching combined with excellent
defense and line drives at the plate helped
the Blazers defeat Tampa Bay for the 2nd
time to get past the first round of
elimination. The Blazers ran out of bullets
in the 2nd round of elimination
when the #1 seed eliminated them. The
Blazers finished the week with a 5-3 record,
and placed 8th overall in the
National Tournament, which earned them
medals.
Competing and earning medals at the National
Championship was the culmination of the 11U
Blazers’ season. The Blazers finished
their season with an overall outstanding
record of 31-8. The Blazers may be #8
in the country, but they are #1 in our
hearts.
